Before the first break in the regular season, Barys faced SKA in Saint Petersburg. Due to medical reasons, Ansar Shaykhmendenov and Maxim Mukhametov missed the game. Also, Kirill Panyukov was left out of the lineup. Their places were taken by Nikita Setdikov, Vyacheslav Logvin, and Mikhail Rakhmanov. The coaching staff assigned Nikita Boyarkin to the net.
The opening period was evenly contested. In the middle of the period, Barys failed to capitalize on two sharp counterattacks in a row. Nikita Setdikov hit the crossbar, and SKA’s goalie Pavel Moiseevich saved a shot from Stanislav Bocharev. Shortly after, the home team opened the scoring with an unstoppable shot by Arseniy Gritsyuk.
The second period became a showcase for Nikita Boyarkin, who kept Barys in the game with a series of crucial saves against the opponent’s intense attacks. During this 20-minute stretch, the Kazakh goalie recorded 18 saves.
In the final period, Barys leveled the play and had several clear chances to equalize. Batyrlan Muratov and Dinmukhamed Kairzhan had great opportunities, and Stanislav Bocharev even scored a goal. However, the referees ruled out the goal after a challenge from SKA for offside. In the end, the final siren marked a minimal 1-0 victory for SKA.
Now, KHL teams take a break for the international tournament, Channel One Cup. On December 17, under the guidance of Galym Mambetaliev, Barys will play Dynamo in Moscow.
