Barys September Performance Review by Sport Qory

We look back at Barys’ performance during the first month of the 2026/27 KHL regular season. This feature was prepared with the support of the club’s partner, the Fund for the Support of the Tourism and Sports Industry.

In September, Barys played 10 games. The Astana side recorded five regulation-time wins and collected 10 points. This result keeps Mikhail Kravets’ team in the playoff zone in the Eastern Conference.

Barys scored 38 goals (3.8 per game), the best mark in the League for the month. The team’s biggest win came on September 7, when they defeated Sibir 7:1 at home.

Barys conceded 29 goals (2.9 per game), which is effectively the ninth-best mark in the conference. The team’s heaviest defeat came on September 26 in Astana, a 3:6 loss to one of the Eastern Conference leaders, Neftekhimik.

In September, Kravets’ side converted 7 of 36 power-play opportunities (19.4%), currently ranking 12th in the League. On the penalty kill, Barys conceded six goals on 28 opponent power plays (78.6%), also the 12th-best mark in the championship.

The team’s leading scorer, Justin Bailey (7+5), is among the League’s top scorers and goal scorers. Garrett Pilon (5+5) and Vsevolod Logvin (4+6) also reached the 10-point mark this season.

Jake Massie was named the League’s best defenseman of the month for the first time in his career after recording 8 (3+5) points in 10 games, with a +7 rating. Massie scored the game-winning goals against Lada (6:0) and Lokomotiv (5:0). He also recorded seven hits, 22 blocked shots, three takeaways and three interceptions.

Logan Day leads Barys in blocked shots with 31, the second-highest total among all players in the League in September. The No. 26 is also the team leader in hits with 13.

Four Barys players finished the month among the KHL leaders in plus-minus. In addition to the aforementioned Massie, Vsevolod Logvin and Semyon Simonov both finished at +8, while Kirill Lyapunov led the League with a +10 rating.

Andrei Shutov, who recently played his 100th KHL game, had a solid month of September. He was named the Player of the Game twice and was also named the League’s best goaltender for the second week of the season. Shutov is averaging 1.94 goals against per game with a 94.2% save percentage.

Barys’ five home games in September were attended by 54,098 spectators, an average of 10,820 per game. Barys Arena was sold out twice during the month.
