Before the Barys vs. Avangard match

In their first home game of October, Barys will face Avangard. Less than a week has passed since their last meeting this season. Last Saturday Avangard secured a confident victory (4-0) in Omsk, converting three power plays with goals by Semyon Chistyakov, Reid Boucher, and Linden Vey. Alexey Makeev added another goal, while Pavel Khomchenko made 20 saves. During the post-game press conference, Sergey Zvyagin emphasized that his team needs to focus on defense first, then create scoring chances and deliver results in attack.

Avangard has earned 11 points in 13 games. The team’s top scorer, Damir Sharipzyanov (1 goal, 12 assists), is among the league's top playmakers and defensemen. Goalie Mikhail Berdin remains on the injured list.

While Avangard got time to rest after their win against Barys, the Astana team played another game in Yekaterinburg before returning home. During their match against Avtomobilist, Barys led 2-0 and 3-1, but the final whistle brought more joy to the home team. Maksim Mukhametov and Stanislav Bocharov scored their first goals for Barys, while Michael McLeod, who remains the top scorer for the Kazakh team (3 goals, 3 assists), found the net again. Another newcomer, Nikita Setdikov, recorded his first assist for Barys. Vyacheslav Butsayev noted that his players looked much better in terms of movement and fighting spirit, though not all were in the right condition to play a complete, cohesive game.

Barys currently has five points after 14 games. Kirill Savitsky and Roman Starchenko replaced Batyrlan Muratov and Ruslan Ospanov on the injured list. Alex Grant participated in his first full-team practice yesterday, and it’s highly likely he will appear on the ice in the evening game.

The Barys vs. Avangard game will begin at 19:00 Astana time.
