Samat Daniyar: "We will approach the start of the World Championship well prepared"

Barys defender Samat Daniyar summed up the results of the last season in the KHL and spoke about the preparation of the national team for the World Championship.

- Samat, first of all, congratulations on signing a new contract with Barys. Was this decision difficult?

- Nothing difficult. I am glad that I will be performing at home for two more years! I will try to bring the maximum benefit to the club.

- In fact, last season was your first full season in the KHL. How does it feel?

- Yes, this is my first full season in the KHL. We can say that I completely plunged, although the year was difficult. The main thing is that I managed to play more matches, I got confidence from the coaching staff. I will improve my game, and I want to increase my playing time.

- Have you outlined for yourself the moments in which you need to improve?

- To be honest, I need to improve in many components. First of all, I need to improve your fitness and skating, pull up some technical points and do not stop there.

- If you look at the statistics, the number of blocked shots has doubled. Have you noticed this?

- No, I haven't noticed. I'm just trying to help the team, the goalkeeper. If there is an opportunity to catch the puck, then I try to do it. Especially now hockey is like this, everyone tends to throw from any position. And the fewer pucks reach our goalkeeper, the less likely the goal is.

- For the second year in a row, you are called up to the national team. Tell me, how was the first cycle of training camps in Nur-Sultan?

- I am glad that I am called up to the national team, it is always a great honor to play for my country. The training camp in the capital was excellent, they did a lot of work. Now we need to apply all this in games and win.

- The team is currently in Latvia and is preparing for friendly games. Have you already started to sort out some tactical points?

- We are constantly watching videos, improving our achievements. I think now in friendly games we will try combinations and draw conclusions. We will be well prepared for the start of the World Championship.

- How do you like the conditions, is everything suitable for full-fledged preparation for the World Championship?

- Everything is fine here. All the conditions to prepare properly, conduct a variety of workouts. Plus, we'll just switch to European time.

- Many participating teams of the upcoming World Championship in Finland are already holding control matches. Are you following this?

- I don't really follow other national teams, now the main thing is to prepare ourselves adequately. Sometimes I watch the scores of matches, but no more.

- Which of the opponents of the Kazakhstan national team in the group can you single out?

- There is no one to single out in the "elite", only the top teams play here. So we need to pay attention to each opponent, tune in to the full program and try to show the maximum result in all games.
