Barys started the season with an overtime loss to Neftekhimik

In the first game of the new season Barys hosted Neftekhimik on home ice. Making their KHL debut today were Connor Smith, Wade Allison, Nathan Beaulieu, Will Butcher and Michael McLeod. Also, Johan Mattsson, Anton Burdasov, Nikita Kamalov, Damir Zhafyarov, and Viktor Antipin played their first official matches in Barys jerseys.

The opening minutes were in favor of the visitors. However, Barys managed to level the game and earned a power play. The first special team controlled the puck in the offensive zone for two minutes, but no goal resulted from that opportunity.

The first goal came just before the second break. After a prolonged positional attack by the home team Will Butcher found Wade Allison in front of the opponent's net with a precise pass, and number 19 scored Barys' first goal of the new season. Neftekhimik responded in the middle of the final period – Vladimir Bryukvin scored on a rebound, finishing off a counterattack.

At the end of the game the visitors had a power play that carried over into overtime. However, they scored the winning goal at even strength, with Jean-Sébastien Dea netting the decisive shot.

David Nemirovsky’s team will play their next game on September 6. Barys will face Traktor in Astana.
