Barys kicked off a five-game home series with a matchup against SKA. The Astana team fielded an extremely experimental roster, featuring nine young players. Making their KHL debuts were 18-year-old defensemen from Snezhnye Barsy: Mstislav Shipilin, Marat Sagymbayev, and Sanzhar Ibrahim.

The hosts struck first midway through the opening period when Batyrlan Muratov capitalized on a goalie error, beating Yegor Zavragin. However, SKA responded before the break with goals from Mikhail Vorobyov and Sergey Sapego. Mikhail Grigorenko extended the visitors' lead early in the second period. Later, Mikhail Rakhmanov hit the crossbar on a power play, while Dinmukhamed Kayyrzhan missed a one-on-one chance while Barys was shorthanded.

Nikita Setdikov cut the deficit to one, marking his 100th career KHL point. But the closing minutes belonged to SKA, as Marat Khairullin and Grigory Kuzmin sealed the win. Goalie Nikita Boyarkin put up a strong effort, stopping 41 shots.

On February 15, Galym Mambetaliev’s squad will take on Lada at home.
