Barys concluded their short away series in Kazan. The match against Ak Bars featured two debuts, with Artur Gross and Haknazar Kenesbay playing their first minutes in the KHL.
The key events unfolded in the second period. Ivan Nikolishin opened the scoring in the first shift of the period. Shortly after, Kirill Savitsky broke away while shorthanded, scoring a second goal and troubling Timur Bilyalov. However, Ak Bars responded before the intermission with unstoppable shots from Alexander Barabanov and Artemiy Knyazev.
In the final period, Mikhail Rakhmanov’s goal allowed Barys to maintain their lead for a while. With just 101 seconds left in regulation, Alihan Asetov scored on an empty net. Despite this, the Kazan team fought back, with accurate shots from Dmitry Yashkin and Nicolas Petan sending the game into overtime, where Nikita Lyamkin sealed the victory.
On January 19, Galym Mambetaliev’s squad will host Lokomotiv on home ice.
