Barys completed their best-of-five series against Sunkar in the minimum number of games. In the matchup in Uralsk, the decisive stretch came in the third period, when the visitors scored four goals against the hosts.
Amir Gafurov, who recorded a brace, netted the game-winning goal for the Astana side. Nuraly Aitmagambetov, Leonid Shakenov, Adilkhan Sattar, and Alisher Amangaliyev each added a goal. Goaltender Leonid Kravtsov made 31 saves.
Thus, Barys became the first semifinalist of the current playoff season. Their opponent in the next round will be determined after the remaining quarterfinal series conclude.
