Before the Match Barys - Neftekhimik

In the first match of the new KHL season Barys will host Neftekhimik on home ice.

The team from Nizhnekamsk prepared for the championship in two preseason tournaments in Ufa and Magnitogorsk. At the 2024 Bashkortostan Republic Cup  Oleg Leontiev's team defeated Avtomobilist (4:1), but lost to Salavat Yulaev (2:4), Metallurg (1:2), and Severstal (1:2). However, Neftekhimik performed much better at the Romazan Memorial. During the tournament, they beat the VHL team Magnitka (2:1), and were awarded a technical victory against Metallurg. Although they lost to Ufa in a shootout (3:4), this result was enough to secure the tournament's main prize.

This summer defenseman Vladislav Leontiev and forward Vyacheslav Leshchenko returned to Neftekhimik. The team's defensive line was also reinforced by Roman Abrosimov and Bogdan Kiselevich, who played for Avangard last season. Canadian defenseman Luka Profaca is preparing for his first season in the KHL.

Barys spent most of the preseason without their national team players, who were participating in the final Olympic qualifying tournament in Bratislava. David Nemirovsky's coaching staff evaluated almost all newcomers and many young players from the club's system during the tournaments in Astana and Omsk.

After the Blinov Cup defenseman Viktor Antipin and forward Anton Burdasov joined the team. The national team players returned to Astana on September 3.

Today Barys will hold its first full-team practice in a long time, after which the lineup for the first match of the championship will be determined.

Kazakhstan's team has Batyrlan Muratov on the injured list, who is recovering from an injury sustained at the RK President's Cup.

The match between Barys and Neftekhimik will begin at 19:30 Astana time.
