Barys continues its road trip with a matchup against Salavat Yulaev. Notably, this will be our team’s 1,100th game in the Kontinental Hockey League.
After a tough start to the season, Ufa’s team is gaining momentum and now sits just one point shy of the playoff zone. In their previous outing, Salavat saw its winning streak snapped with a 1–4 home loss to Lokomotiv. The lone goal came from Yaroslav Tsulygin, while Alexander Samonov stopped 33 shots before being traded to CSKA for financial compensation. Head coach Viktor Kozlov noted that his players tried to impose their game, but the opponent managed to relieve pressure effectively and transition out of the zone.
The Ufa side currently has 18 points in 21 games. Their leading scorer is Maxim Kuznetsov (4+12). Newly signed goaltender Ilya Konovalov joined the team late last week. However, Sheldon Rempal, who recently returned to Ufa, is not listed for the trip. The team’s injury list includes defenseman Nikita Zorkin and forwards Danil Alalykin, Anton Berlyov, Gleb Kuzmin, Artyom Pimenov, Nikolay Khvorov, Pyotr Khokhryakov, and Denis Yan.
Barys suffered a 2–5 home defeat to Neftekhimik on Monday. Kirill Panyukov and Dinmukhamed Kaiyrzhan scored for the home side, with Kaiyrzhan reaching the 10-point mark (3+7). Returning from injury, Alihan Asetov recorded his first point of the season, while Adam Scheel made 28 saves. Forward Max Willman made his KHL debut. Head coach Mikhail Kravets expressed frustration with the number of individual mistakes, particularly in the second period.
The Kazakh team has 19 points after 23 games. Riley Walsh (7+12) shares the top spot among KHL defensemen in scoring with Avangard’s Damir Sharipzyanov. The team’s injury list grew as defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon was ruled out long-term.
The game between Barys and Salavat Yulaev starts at 19:30 Astana time.
