In the second game of their home series Barys will face Traktor. The team from Chelyabinsk started the championship with an away loss to Avtomobilist (2:3). It's worth noting that Traktor outshot their opponents nearly three times, but Yekaterinburg’s goalkeeper Yevgeny Alikin saved the day with 46 saves. His counterpart Zach Fucale saved only 13 of 16 shots. Alexander Sharov and Vitaly Kravtsov scored their first goals of the new season. Ural's head coach Benoît Groulx pointed out that his team did many things right but lost the battle of special teams. After three days of play at the start of the championship Traktor stands in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
On Wednesday Barys lost a game against Neftekhimik (1:2 in overtime). The first goal in the Astana team's jersey was scored by newcomer Wade Allison, while other newcomers Michael McLeod and Will Butcher contributed their first points. Johan Mattsson saved 31 shots on goal. Young club players Ansar Shaikhmeddenov, Dinmukhamed Kaiyrzhan, Alikhan Omirbekov, and Ruslan Ospanov also got decent playing time. David Nemirovsky stated in a press conference that in the future they need to focus more on shooting and net-front play.
As of now Barys is in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with one point. Forward Vladislav Kodola has joined Batyrlan Muratov on the injured list.
The Barys vs Traktor match will begin at 19:00 Astana time.
