Before the Metallurg vs. Barys Game

Barys continues their road swing with a matchup against the current regular-season leaders, Metallurg.

In their last outing, Magnitogorsk fired an incredible 60 shots on Avangard’s net but still fell 1–3 on home ice. Sergei Tolchinsky scored their only goal, while Ilya Nabokov stopped 27 shots. Head coach Andrei Razin noted that in games like this, discipline becomes crucial — and his team made some costly mistakes that led directly to goals.

After 31 games, the Steelmen have earned 48 points and scored 119 goals — both league-best marks. Vladimir Tkachyov (8+32) leads the entire KHL in both points and assists. Roman Kantserov tops the league’s goal-scoring race with 19 goals. Robin Press (2+22) ranks among the top five scoring defensemen. Forward Andrei Kozlov remains on the injured list.

On Thursday, Barys dropped a high-scoring matchup in Ufa, falling 4–7 to Salavat Yulaev. Max Willman scored twice, while Michael Vecchione and Riley Walsh each added a goal, once again staying tied in goals and assists (both with 8+14). With two assists, Vsevolod Logvin reached the 10-point mark (4+6), and Artyom Korolyov picked up his first assist of the season. Andrei Shutov finished with 28 saves. Head coach Mikhail Kravets was unhappy with the unnecessary penalties that allowed the opponent to swing the game back in their favor.

Barys remains at 27 points through 31 games. Jake Massie, who missed the previous match due to illness, is expected to return to the lineup. Michael Vecchione’s status is uncertain after blocking a shot in Ufa and suffering an injury.
