From October 31 to November 3, the first-ever Asian Women's Ice Hockey Championship, organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation, took place in Beijing, China.
The participating teams included representatives from Japan, South Korea, China, and Kazakhstan. The head coach of the Kazakhstan team was Alexander Tebenkov, and the national team included eight players from the Tomiris club.
The initial matches didn’t go well for the Kazakh team. In matches against the more experienced teams from China and Japan, Kazakhstan lost with scores of 0-5 and 0-8, respectively. However, in the bronze medal game, Tebenkov's team clinched victory against South Korea in a shootout (5-4). Goals were scored by Aleksandra Shegay and Dariya Moldabay from Tomiris, with team captain Anastasia Orazbayeva executing the decisive shootout. Goalie Arina Shchyokolova blocked 28 shots on target.
As a result, the Kazakhstan team secured third place at the Asian Championship. The silver medal went to China, while Japan, which competes in the elite division of world hockey, took the top spot.
