In their second road game of the season, Barys faced Metallurg. The Astana coaching staff made no changes to the lineup following their victory in Tolyatti.
Hunter Shepard’s shutout streak ended at 89 minutes and 45 seconds when Makar Khabarov opened the scoring with a shot from the blue line. By the end of the 10th minute, the visiting goaltender had been pulled. Yegor Korobkin and Nikita Mikhaylis converted two counterattacks, prompting the Barys coaching staff to turn to Andrey Shutov for the first time this season.
In the second period, the Kazakh side had opportunities to cut the deficit to a minimum. However, in two clear-cut chances, the puck somehow failed to cross the goal line.
The final period was controlled by Barys, who had several opportunities to capitalize on the power play. However, they were unable to beat Alexander Smolin.
On September 20, Mikhail Kravets’ team will face Lokomotiv in Yaroslavl.
