Astana will host the final leg of the Swimming World Cup for the first time from October 15 to 17, 2026, as part of World Cup Astana 2026.
Ahead of the competition, some of the world's leading swimmers decided to switch roles and try their hand at hockey by taking part in a masterclass organized by Barys Hockey Club.
The participants who took to the ice included multiple Olympic medalists and world champions, as well as winners of various international competitions: Yu Yiting (China), Roos Vanotterdijk (Belgium), Marrit Steenbergen (Netherlands), Siobhan Haughey (Hong Kong), Caspar Corbeau (Netherlands), Shaine Casas (USA), Carson Foster (USA), Cameron McEvoy (Australia) and Qin Haiyang (China). They were coached by Dinmukhamed Kaiyrzhan, Kirill Panyukov and Batyrlan Muratov, along with players from the Barys junior team.
After a mandatory safety briefing, the participants learned the basics of skating and how to hold a hockey stick correctly, practiced puck handling and even tried taking faceoffs. The event concluded with a friendly chat and a group photo.
