Barys concluded a short home series with a match against Avtomobilist. Nikolay Shulga, a graduate of Barys' youth sports school, made his KHL debut. Beibarys Orazov returned to the lineup after participating in the World Junior Championship.
The game’s first goal came in the fourth minute, when Alexey Byvaltsev quickly capitalized on an opportunity, scoring from behind the net. The home team responded with a counterattack led by Kirill Savitsky. Despite a promising attempt, Vladimir Galkin made a crucial save for Avtomobilist.
Adil Beketayev ended Barys' scoring drought with a power-play goal midway through the second period. However, the visitors equalized before the break, with Semyon Kizimov converting on a power play. Nikita Setdikov saved the hosts from a loss in regulation time. In overtime, Barys created three significant chances, but Galkin's strong performance kept them at bay. Avtomobilist proved more accurate in the shootout.
On January 9, Galym Mambetaliev’s team will face Lada in Togliatti.
