The roster of the Neva-based Army Men has undergone significant changes this offseason. SKA have added forwards Zakhar Bardakov and Vasily Glotov, who are already familiar to St. Petersburg fans, as well as Danil Aimurzin and Vasily Atanasov, the leading players of Severstal and Torpedo last season. Defencemen Alexei Maklyukov and Vladislav Semyonov, both well known to Kazakh hockey fans, have also joined the team.
Before the start of the Puchkov Tournament, Igor Larionov's side played two exhibition games against Avtomobilist, winning 3–1 and 5–4. Another SKA newcomer, Swedish forward Linus Weissbach, took part in three of his team's scoring plays across those two games.
Barys previously competed in the Republic of Bashkortostan Cup in Ufa. The Astana side defeated Lada (2–1) but suffered losses to Salavat Yulaev (1–4) and Amur (1–5). Chase Priskie was named the tournament's Best Defenceman by the organisers.
Forward Justin Bailey has arrived in St. Petersburg with the team and is highly likely to make his Barys debut in today's game. Alikhan Asetov, who missed the tournament in Ufa due to medical reasons, has also travelled with the team.
The SKA vs. Barys game starts at 21:00 Kazakhstan time.
