Capital of Kazakhstan once again gathered young hockey stars of the Eurasian continent. The fourth international tournament UTLC Ice Cup took place at Barys Arena.
The flagship of the project is United Transport and Logistics Company - Eurasian Rail Alliance (UTLC ERA JSC), which is the operator of rail transit container services across Eurasia in China/Southeast Asia-EU and in the opposite direction.
This year, teams from five countries fought for the prestigious cup, which was a record for the geography of participants in the history of the tournament. In addition to teams from Russia, Kazakhstan, China and Belarus, representatives of Humo from Uzbekistan tried their hand at the UTLC Ice Cup for the first time.
According to the results of the preliminary stage, Yaroslavl's Lokomotiv Yaroslavl and SKA Army from St. Petersburg, who became winners in their groups, as well as Barys from Astana and Dynamo Minsk, who took second place, made it to the final part of the competition.
Beijing GLS and Humo from Tashkent played for the fifth place in the tournament. The team from the capital of China was stronger in this match (5:1).
Barys and Dinamo, who lost to SKA Army and Lokomotiv, respectively, in their semifinals, faced off in the match for third place. During the two periods of the "bronze" meeting there was almost an equal struggle, but in the final segment of the Astana team still beat their opponents (7:1) and took an honorable third place in the tournament.
The final match turned out to be a real gem of the tournament. Lokomotiv, the reigning tournament winner, had an impressive start and scored three times against their opponents. The authors of the scored goals were Andrei Rozhkov and Anton Malinovsky, who scored a double. As early as 12 seconds into the second period, Semyon Gerasimov solidified the Yaroslavl team's lead, and that goal likely broke the SKA Army players, who were unable to get back into the game. And 16 seconds before the second break Filipp Vychugzhanin scored, as it turned out later, the final puck of the tournament. Thus, Lokomotiv became the winner of the UTLC Ice Cup for the third time in its history.
After the finals, the closing ceremony of the UTLC Ice Cup 2024 was held. The event was attended by Daulen Rakhmetullin, First Deputy General Director of UTLC ERA JSC, Alexey Borodavkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Boris Ivanishchev, General Director of Barys Hockey Club, and Alexey Mamontov, Executive Director of the Kazakhstan Hockey Federation. The winner and prize-winners of the tournament, as well as the players recognized as the best in their roles, received their well-deserved awards.
