Team Kazakhstan opened its IIHF World Championship Division IA campaign against Lithuania.

The game started with a penalty against the nominal visitors, and Aivaras Bendzius quickly capitalized on the power play opportunity. Before the first intermission, Kazakhstan created several dangerous chances, including one where Roman Starchenko rang a shot off the crossbar.

The third period proved decisive. Kazakhstan finally turned its advantage into goals and took full control of the game. Kirill Savitskiy tied it up, while Artur Gatiyatov, Semyon Simonov, and Fyodor Khoroshev all scored their first goals at the senior world championships. Andrey Shutov finished the game with 12 saves.

On May 3, Talgat Zhailauov’s team will face Japan. Puck drop is set for 3:30 PM.
